What is the program? The ELC recognizes that many families in the community need child care but are unable to afford it. The ELC contracts with Family Central, Inc. (FCI) to manage child care financial assistance services for qualifying families.
Who’s Eligible for Services? All Broward County families are invited to call and speak to a Resource and Referral Counselor who will conduct an eligibility pre-screening for financial assistance.
What are the Steps for Service? The first step is to make contact with Resource and Referral and Family Education and Supports at Family Central, Inc. (FCI) and speak with a Resource and Referral Counselor. If a family appears to be potentially eligible for financial assistance opportunities, the Resource and Referral Counselor discusses scholarship opportunities, as well as the current status of the community waiting list for School Readiness Funds (Federal, State and local community funds). At the families’ request a pre-screening for potential eligibility occurs and the family is placed on the community waiting list for child care financial assistance when it becomes available.
The second step is for families to maintain contact with Resource and Referral Counselors with updates of any changes in family status.
When funds become available, the Resource and Referral Counselor will contact priority families to determine current family circumstances, discuss required documentation and information necessary to apply for eligibility determination and schedule families for an appointment with an Eligibility Determination Counselor. FCI follows an eligibility priority guideline that is established by ELC and the State of Florida. FCI also uses an approved Co-payment Sliding Fee Schedule, which is revised annually by ELC.
