Professional Development Sholarships

Professional Development Scholarships

Description:  The Early Learning Coalition of Broward County, Inc. is committed to promoting quality child care through its support of quality child care programs and staff professional development.

What is the program?  The Coalition offers three types of scholarships on a first-come, first-serve basis: (1) College Scholarships; (2) National Child Development Association (CDA) Credential Scholarships; and (3) In-service Professional Development Scholarships.

Who is eligible for the program?  Practitioners working more than 20 hours a week in Broward County child care facilities which have a current, signed Coalition approved Service Agreement to serve children who receive assistance from school readiness funds and/or provide a Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program, and also participate in the Broward Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS).

"Participation in QRIS" is defined as any legally operating child care provider in Broward County, serving children birth through school-age, who have been rated (pre-assessed and/or full rating included) by the Broward County Child Care Licensing and Enforcement Quality Rating System since year 2004 and that have not formerly withdrawn, in writing, from participation in the program.

Individuals that do not meet the above descriptions will be eligible for scholarships beginning January of each year, if there are funds available after meeting the needs of the target groups cited above, on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority going to those who work at facilities with signed Service Agreements (as above), but NOT participating in QRIS.

What are the steps for service?  The program is administered by the Children’s Forum and there is an official scholarship application and management site for all communications about these scholarships.  For more information about the scholarships and to apply, please visit
