2020-21 VPK Flexible Innovative Options Has Been Extended

The Office of Early Learning (OEL) has provided important information regarding the extension of the VPK Flexible Innovative Options Program. We are pleased to continue to provide parents with choice by extending approved VPK providers (VPK Flex Program) through the end of the 2020-21 VPK School Year Program.

All approved VPK Flexible Programs may extend their programs through the end of the 2020-21 school year with the following conditions:

  • Providers must already have a VPK Flexible Innovative Option plan approved by OEL in late summer/early fall 2020.
  • Providers must be open, offering in-person VPK, in order to leverage this innovative option for families who choose it. Please note, if a parent chooses to switch their child from virtual to in-person learning, this is permissible.
  • Assurances and implementing information regarding the required 540 hours of instruction by qualified staff, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the VPK standards, progress monitoring and reporting of student performance, daily attendance, family contacts, equitable access, privacy and security, and training to staff, students and parents must be maintained.
  • VPK Flex providers will receive additional communication regarding updating their classroom calendar.
